Joseph A. Strubbe joined Vedder Price in 1996 as a Shareholder and is the past Chair of the Litigation practice area and has served on the firm’s Board of Directors.
He has significant experience in high-stakes complex commercial litigation across many industries, as well as defense of major class action claims and intellectual property matters. Mr. Strubbe’s widespread litigation and counseling experience includes defending many Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) class actions, acting as lead trial counsel defending a multinational corporation against trade secret misappropriation claims, serving as National Mortgage Fraud Recovery Counsel for one of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders in over a dozen federal cases, representing a defendant in class action litigation involving the alleged contamination of over 800 private drinking water wells, and defending numerous consumer class action matters. Mr. Strubbe has handled matters involving federal and state environmental issues, covering government and private cost recovery and contribution actions under CERCLA, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) claims, enforcement matters, toxic tort claims and administrative and private actions. He has also devoted a significant portion of his practice to the litigation and trial of contract disputes and failed transactions as well as transactional counseling, UCC claims, reinsurance and insurance coverage matters, and negligence and professional malpractice matters.
From August 1985 to August 1987, he served as a Judicial Clerk for The Honorable Frank J. McGarr, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Mr. Strubbe holds an "AV Preeminent" Peer Rating by Martindale-Hubbell (the highest possible rating). He was also selected for inclusion in Illinois Super Lawyers from 2005 to 2016, and has been selected by his peers from 2012 to 2023 as a Leading Lawyer in Commercial Litigation.
