Javier “Javy” Lopez is a Shareholder in Vedder Price’s Miami office and a member of the firm’s Litigation practice area.

Mr. Lopez focuses his practice on complex commercial, business and civil litigation in U.S. federal and state courts. He has extensive experience representing high-profile companies and individuals in a wide range of legal matters, including contract and business disputes, commercial transactions, intellectual property matters, fraud, defamation, class actions and shareholder disputes. Mr. Lopez is a seasoned trial lawyer and was lead counsel in securing one of the top 10 largest jury verdicts in the State of Florida and one of the highest settlements in the United States in 2022.

Since 2021, Mr. Lopez has been ranked by Chambers USA for the Litigation: General Commercial category which described him as “highly effective” and an “experienced litigator who leads an excellent team.” Selected by his peers, Mr. Lopez was featured in South Florida’s 2024 Top Lawyers list in the Miami Herald. Mr. Lopez was named a “Rising Star” from 2010 to 2020 and a “Super Lawyer” since 2022 by Florida Super Lawyers. He was also recognized as a "Rising Star" by the Daily Business Review and a "Top 40 Under 40" by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. 

Mr. Lopez is an active member of his community and involves himself with charitable organizations including Nicklaus Children's Hospital Foundation (formerly Miami Children's Hospital Foundation) and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Program. He was elected to the Cuban American Bar Association’s Board of Directors in 2009 and served as its President in 2017. He was honored as a Golden Angel for his support of the Jackson Memorial Foundation through JUNTOS, the philanthropic foundation he co-founded. Since 2005, Mr. Lopez has been a member of the Harvard Alumni Association's Interviewing Committee and is also a Miami Arts Studio (MAS) Advisory Board Member.

At the start of his legal career, Mr. Lopez served as a legal clerk in the White House Counsel’s Office where he was involved in the vetting process for the replacement of then Chief Justice William Renquist. He also worked at the U.S. House of Representatives as part of the legal review team for new policy and legislation.
