Employment Associate Rachel Easton of the firm’s London office authored the article for People Management magazine, “Should carers’ leave be paid?”

In the article, Rachel discusses the recently introduced Carers’ Leave Regulations 2024, which provide a statutory right to one week of unpaid leave for employees in the UK to care for dependants with long-term needs, such as disabilities and age-related issues. She also sheds light on the stipulations of the leave time, how it pales in comparison to other nations’ policies, and makes suggestions for employers on how to navigate the current statutory right in a manner that is enforceable while meeting the needs of employees.
