Vedder Price Wins Appeal of Judgment in Favor of a Client Before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
Shareholder Chad A. Schiefelbein and Associates Ayse Kuzucuoglu and Lucky Meinz secured judgment in favor of a client in a lawsuit alleging breach of contract and unjust enrichment with a demand for damages in excess of $4 million. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California entered summary judgment in favor of the client, a global technology company, because the plaintiff lacked standing to bring the claims. The plaintiff appealed the judgment to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. On February 14, 2018, the Ninth Circuit affirmed the judgment in favor of the client.
“We are very pleased that the court found in our client’s favor and I commend the hard work that Chad, Ayse and Lucky put forth as they worked seamlessly with our client for a successful appeal,” said Randall M. Lending, Chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Area. “This victory showcases our commitment to high-quality, high-value client service.”
The case is AeQuadis, Inc. v. HCL America, Inc., 2016 WL 9185291 (N.D. Cal. Nov. 23, 2016), aff’d, 2018 WL 849063 (9th Cir. Feb. 14, 2018).
