Vedder Price Elects New Pro Bono Committee Chairs: Patrick W. Spangler and Michelle T. Olson
Vedder Price is pleased to announce that Shareholder Patrick W. Spangler and Associate Michelle T. Olson have been named Co-chairs of the Vedder Price Pro Bono Committee, taking over for General Counsel Michael R. Mulcahy after his 13 year tenure in the role. The Pro Bono Committee is charged with ensuring Vedder Price attorneys fulfill their professional obligation to provide legal services to the communities in which we operate. The Pro Bono Committee members, led by Mr. Spangler and Ms. Olson, encourage and support the public service activities of its attorneys.
Mr. Spangler has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service since joining the firm in 2006. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Public Interest Law Initiative where he was also a former Fellow at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services. Mr. Spangler also serves as outside legal advisor and as a member of the Board of Directors of MYSI Corp., a child welfare agency in the Chicagoland area. He maintains a broad labor and employment practice representing companies in complex litigation, workforce change and compliance matters. His litigation practice focuses on complex claims arising from the employment relationship. He also provides traditional labor, employment and benefits advice to employers on day-to-day compliance and workforce change events.
Ms. Olson serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors of Sister House, a residential addiction treatment and recovery center for women. She regularly counsels employers on day-to-day employment law and human resources matters, including federal and state anti-discrimination laws, medical leaves of absence and accommodation requests, employee discipline and discharge, whistleblower and retaliation claims, and wage and hour violations. Ms. Olson helps employers navigate challenging workplace investigations, including allegations of harassment, bullying and retaliation.
In addition to serving our clients, our attorneys participate in or otherwise support legal assistance for the indigent and other forms of community service. Vedder Price has a long history of support for pro bono services. A founder of the firm helped establish the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, and his commitment to pro bono activities was instilled in the firm and continues to this day. Additionally, the firm strongly endorses bar association and other professional activities.
