Vedder Price Announces 2024 2L Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships
Vedder Price is pleased to announce that Gregory Miller and Kierran Orr, second-year law students at Howard University School of Law and the University of Chicago Law School, respectively, have been named as recipients of the firm’s 2024 2L Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships.
This marks the 20th year Vedder Price has awarded Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships, which provide both a monetary award and a position in the firm’s Summer Associate Program.
Gregory Miller will work primarily within the firm’s Global Transportation Finance practice area in the Chicago office. He received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh where he made the Dean’s List six times and was a member of Sigma Tau Delta English honor society and Omicron Delta Kappa honor society.
Prior to attending the Howard University School of Law, Miller was an AmeriCorps Fellow where he taught and mentored youth in Wilmington, Delaware. While in law school, Miller participated in Howard’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Externship and was a summer associate with Vedder Price in 2023.
“I decided to return to Vedder Price because I enjoyed the individuals I worked with last summer,” said Miller. “In my opinion, when selecting a law firm to join you should choose a place where you obtain quality work and where you enjoy working with the individuals around you. As such, my decision was clear. I look forward to rejoining Vedder this summer and I am hopeful to start my legal career at the firm.”
Kierran Orr will work within the firm’s Finance & Transactions, Global Transportation Finance and Investment Services practice areas in the Chicago office. Orr received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Arizona State University where he was awarded the ASU Seed Scholarship and the SUN Award.
Orr is a member of the Latinx Law Student Association at The University of Chicago Law School, with experience working with Emerging Voices: Fundación Ibur & Fundación Domus in Colombia and Manos a la Vida in Mexico. He recently completed an internship with the Cook County Department of Human Rights & Ethics.
“I am a mixed-race, Latino, first-generation law student coming from a family of diverse ethnicities and countries of origin,” said Orr. “Because of my background, I knew I wanted to begin my career in a space that valued and truly invested in championing diversity and inclusion in both the legal profession and our broader communities. I am certain that my time at Vedder Price will enable me to foster a career and identity as a competent, skillful lawyer with an active commitment to my community and values.”
“We are very happy to have Gregory return and to welcome Kierran to our firm this summer,” said Andrew Torre, Chair of Vedder Price’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. “We are looking forward to collaborating with them during the Summer Associate Program as they continue to learn and advance in their legal careers.”
