Patrick Spangler to Present at American Bar Association's Employee Benefits Committee Midwinter Meeting
Shareholder and member of the firm's Labor and Employment group Patrick Spangler will present on multiemployer fund withdrawal liability issues at the American Bar Association's 2020 Employee Benefits Committee Midwinter Meeting in Rancho Mirage, California, February 5-8, 2020. The program is designed to highlight recent trends in employee benefits and ERISA litigation for law firm, government, and in-house attorneys.
Patrick will present on current withdrawal liability litigation trends as part of the “Multiemployer Plans: Selected Topics” panel. The panel also will include Louisa Soulard from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (“PBGC”), Neelam Chanda from Reich, Adell & Cvitan, and Adam Garner from the Garner Law Firm Ltd. Patrick’s section will cover the current status of Segal Blend litigation, recent trends in controlled group litigation including the First Circuit’s decision in Sun Capital, and new rules approved by the PBGC governing the arbitration of withdrawal liability disputes before the American Arbitration Association, which went into effect January 1, 2020.
Patrick is a former management-side Co-Chair of the ABA Labor Section’s Subcommittee on Withdrawal Liability. He maintains a national practice representing employers in withdrawal liability disputes and provides strategic advice to companies with respect to multiemployer fund exposure.
