Jonathan Maude Comments on GDPR Compliance in HR Grapevine Magazine
London Employment Partner Jonathan Maude was recently quoted in an HR Grapevine article, “Will GDPR Result in a Seismic Shift on how Data is Managed?” Mr. Maude urges organizations to not pass GDPR off as just another box ticking exercise, but to at least take measures to meet the guidelines.
“Doing something is better than nothing. You’ve got to know what data you’ve got, where it’s going and get your employee consent in place,” said Mr. Maude. He advises that companies should change the conversation from one of panic over the consequences and hefty fines to one of preparation and education. “[The enforcer’s] priority is to come down hard on data breaches and companies that hide the fact,” he says. He also notes that data breach allegations are most likely to come from a company’s own employees, which is why firms must educate their staff on their role in maintaining compliance.
