Global Immigration Reform and the New Corporate Reality: What Employers and Corporate Counsel Need to Know
Gabrielle M. Buckley, Shareholder and Chair of Vedder Price's Business Immigration practice group and Chair of the ABA's Section of International Law, was Meeting Co-Chair of the ABA Section of International Law 2014 Spring Meeting, which was held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City April 1-5. As Meeting Co-Chair, Ms. Buckley assisted in the development of the program, which offered over 70 substantive continuing legal education sessions for international practitioners with all levels of experience.
Ms. Buckley also served as a speaker on a panel presentation titled "Global Immigration Reform and the New Corporate Reality: What Employers and Corporate Counsel Need to Know." The program addressed fundamental aspects of the immigration framework that corporations face when hiring or moving employees, or conducting transactional and transnational business activities including sale or asset purchases, mergers, expansions and acquisitions.
The annual meeting is one of the world's largest and most important gatherings of international lawyers, with an estimated 1,500 attendees from over 80 countries. This year’s event began with Courageous Counsel, including prominent women General Counsels from the Fortune 500, and concluded with a look at the legal profession by Senator Evan Bayh, the Honorable Judith Kaye, Bernard Nussbaum, Richard Revesz and Frederic Ury. In between were prominent speakers such as Chancellor Leo Strine from the Delaware Court of Chancery and Lord Michael Burton, Chief Judge of Commercial Courts, Royal Courts of Justice, London.
