Charles W. Murphy is an associate at Vedder Price and a member of the Real Estate and Land Use Group and the Finance and Transactions Group. He represents institutional and commercial clients in a variety of matters, including real estate and commercial finance, the acquisition, disposition, development and leasing of real property, and associated corporate matters.
Finance
Mr. Murphy has extensive experience in real estate finance, representing lenders and investors in permanent, construction and mezzanine loan transactions ranging from $10 million to $100 million involving health care, auto, commercial, office, multifamily, retail and industrial properties. He regularly assists lenders and borrowers in national and international commercial finance transactions ranging from $10 million to over $1 billion.
Acquisition/Disposition
Mr. Murphy represents clients in the acquisition and disposition of real property, including commercial, office, multifamily, retail, condominium, resort and industrial properties. He advises clients on matters involving tenant-in-common structures, investment syndications and 1031 forward and reverse exchanges.
Development
Mr. Murphy acts as an advisor to his clients in all phases of real estate development, including pre-development, construction, land use, licensing and management.
Distressed Assets
Mr. Murphy regularly represents clients in loan restructurings, workouts and short sales, and he is a member of the firm’s Distressed Real Estate Asset Subgroup.
Leasing
Mr. Murphy advises tenants, landlords and lenders with respect to leasing matters, including lease preparation and negotiation, leasehold financing, extensions, expansions and terminations.
Prior to his law career, Mr. Murphy was a certified public accountant with a public accounting firm, and he is currently a registered certified public accountant (non-practicing).
