Gabrielle Buckley Appointed to American Bar Association's Rule of Law Initiative Board
Gabrielle M. Buckley, a shareholder in Vedder Price's Chicago office, has been appointed to the Board of the American Bar Association's Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI). ABA ROLI is a mission-driven, nonprofit program grounded in the belief that rule-of-law promotion is the most effective long-term antidote to the most pressing problems facing the world today, including poverty, conflict, endemic corruption and disregard for human rights. The organization implements legal-reform programs in more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa. Ms. Buckley will be serving along with many prominent figures including current and former US Supreme Court Justices and past ABA presidents.
In addition to her service on the Board of ABA ROLI, Ms. Buckley has been appointed Chair-Elect of the ABA’s Section of International Law and will begin her service as Chair in 2013. The Section of International Law, which includes almost 25,000 members across 90 countries, is a leader in international policy development, the promotion of the rule of law and the education of international law practitioners.
In her role as a shareholder at Vedder Price, Ms. Buckley heads the firm's Business Immigration Practice group. She has over 25 years of experience counseling companies around the world with regard to all aspects of employment-related immigration laws. She advises employers as to immigration law issues arising in corporate mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and other forms of corporate reorganization. Ms. Buckley assists clients in obtaining temporary and permanent immigration status in virtually every immigration category for both inbound and outbound employees. She develops immigration compliance policies for employers and conducts internal immigration/I-9 audits and training for employers. Ms. Buckley also represents international direct investors in selecting appropriate investment vehicles and obtaining investor visas.
